Kelly Harbacheck

Kelly began her career in architecture as an intern with us while still in school. After graduating, she moved far, far away to Dallas, TX where she gained valuable experience researching senior living design and retirement communities as a Healthcare Fellow alongside her full time project work. Kelly returned to Iowa in 2013 at which point we were happy to scoop her up as a valuable member of our team.

Ideal outdoor conditions?
“The changing colors of the landscape, harvesting crops, and moderate temperatures of autumn characterize this season as my favorite outdoor conditions during the year. Ideal conditions are just when the colorful leaves are starting to fall, with temperatures in the mid to lower 60’s, partly cloudy, and a light breeze.”
What are you listening to in your car?
“My current playlist favorites are from Mumford and Sons, NEED TO BREATHE, Blake Shelton, Brett Dennen, and Jack Johnson.”
What made you decide to get into your profession?
“I naively based my initial interest in architecture on my strengths and enthusiasm for art and math after designing a house in a 7th grade science class. After professional experience in healthcare design and studying abroad in Rome, Italy, I discovered a specific interest in healthcare and residential design. It wasn’t until the encouragement I received from a college professor to research healthcare and senior living design based on my professional and personal experiences with these types of architectural design, that I discovered my specific interest in architecture; the ability to positively impact the complex relationships between caregivers, staff, the community, and people who reside in spaces that improve the health and wellbeing of all who interact with the built environment.”
