This project, which houses grades three through five, groups classrooms into pods for greater efficiency and flexibility among teaching staff. The facility’s competition-sized gymnasium, cafeteria and music spaces are designed for public access after school hours. An adjacent outdoor classroom provides students with a unique opportunity to combine classroom teaching with observation of a natural wildlife habitat year-round.
Bold colors, natural light and historical references to the local community have been incorporated into the building’s interior to challenge the student’s interest and curiosity. Clear Creek was featured by the Iowa Association of School Boards as an example of how a well-designed school building can positively enhance the productivity and achievements of students.
