Historic Park Inn Hotel
Mason City, Iowa
1999-2011 Restoration
Because of the firm’s extensive experience in Prairie School design, Bergland + Cram was commissioned to oversee the restoration and rehabilitation of the Historic Park Inn Hotel and City National Bank Building, the world’s last remaining hotel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Completed in 1911, the building had a significant impact on architecture in the United States and Europe when it was first published. It has been remodeled numerous times, including the installation of large display windows in the bank’s original façade. After a nearly 12 year process, the completely renovated hotel and public spaces were completed and reopened to the public 101 years after the original grand opening.
